Sarah Mahler, 2nd Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Washoe County, and Chair of the Fundraising and Events Committee, is a first generation American and a fierce progressive. She is passionate about Democratic issues, especially education, fair wages, affordable healthcare and housing, sensible gun legislation, social justice, protecting the environment, immigration and voting rights, and the future of our Democracy.

Sarah has been active during every campaign season since 2008 at an ever-increasing commitment level, and ultimately was elected to serve as Chair of the Democratic Party of Washoe County from 2017-2023.  Her activist involvement includes grassroots organizing, voter registration drives, Organizing for America, Progressive Democrats of America, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, and opposition to Bureau of Land Management leases to fracking companies.

A California native, Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree in zoology at Humboldt State University where she met her husband Eric. In 1989, she received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Washington State University. Sarah and Eric moved their family to Nevada more than 20 years ago and live in Spanish Springs.

When not politically active, Sarah enjoys knitting, reading, Pilates, yoga, traveling, and being with her family.
